i find myself writing about this everytime im bck in brunei

I wasn’t implying that all Malaysians are assholes in my last post. Only some. But PEOPLE in general can be assholes. It’s not just that one malaysian squash coach who’s been giving me attitude about not graduating with honours but i’ve been getting the same comments by a handful of people here too..but not as BAD lah. Yang Squash coach atu GILA tu.

“i get that alot. that honours thing. it’s ridiculous! ingat our degree ani one day process kah?!?” to quote what Nadd commented on my last post.

Australia works differently from other countries. I’m so sick of explaining (kan muntah ku sudah) but anyway here goes, UNLIKE UK our honours arent given to us on a silver platter.. we in australia have to do another extra year if we want to get our honours (thats another year on top of 3 years or 4 years depends on what course). This is why most students would rather go straight to their masters rather than wasting another whole year on their honours. So this is usually the case.

-if you know you’re not going to get FIRST CLASS HONOURS then, you might as well do your masters.. kalau dpt 2nd class 3rd class honours from where i study, it’s really nothing. malu plang urang bah kalau buat honours inda dpt 1st class, so drpd malu. baik buat masters.
– if you dont want to waste more time STUDYING (lets be honest, who does?) you might as well do your masters.
– belajar ani beguna DUIT. another year of honours means another year of DUIT. go figure.

an australian degree is an australian degree , a UK degree is a UK degree..a MALAYSIAN degree is a Malaysian Degree..so shut up people. jangantah kan di compare2…and we’ll just see who among these people will rise to the top. mcm america’s next top model…and i hope its not the malaysian. LOL.

WANNA BE ON TOP.

  1. membari kelamuan sebenarnya when kana tanya cmatu atu.

macam, get on with the prgramme dude (yang bertanya lah ah bukan squash guy atu saja). don’t be an ignorant jerk, jerk. there are other education system besides the british system.

    pis! hehe.

  2. WANNA BE ON TOP *pose*.. *pose*.. *killer pose*

Andang BABAL bah urang Brunei ani, tebuat segala2nya dari HENGLAND.. spesil tah tu!!! Btw, dont feel bad, bukan saja people on the streets betanya.. yang BOSS2 yang supposedly educated pun MASIH LAGI PALOI thinking the same thing. Bebuyah sudah mulut meng-explen..

TAMPAR SAJA IA LAIN KALI PAKAI SQUASH REKET AH!!!

  3. Thanks for sharing this post. I still don’t understand the mentality of some thinking England is still best. Being currently educated down under, it opened me up with regards to the high standard and quality of education. No regrets studying down under and my kids will go there, hopefully. If someone going to laugh at my qualifications.. sorry mate! I beg to differ!!!

  4. eh awu eh! palui! menyampuk tah ku ni nah. NIEE CUBA BACA NIE YANG MENTINGGAL ATUUU!!!

“Here’s an example of grades under the British system. Note that the actual numbers may vary (and calculation), but the overall classification is accurate.

University Degree Classification and Mark Ranges ECTS Grades
    First Class Honours…… 1st 70-100 Excellent
Upper Second Class Honours 2.1 60-69 Very Good
Lower Second Class Honours 2.2 50-59 Good
    Third Class Honours……..3rd 45-49 Satisfactory

    ………

Unlike our system (Australian System) where honours are normally undertaken under an additional year, the level is just awarded on your overall mark.”

Sekali kalau honours Australia ani untuk urang kan SPECIALISE in a particular area. Setaun tu ya specialise atu, bukan honours DIDALAM degree.

Iatah tu ertinya. Paham kah? Payah tu ah mun urang bedegree masih nda paham atu.

AIM urang inda kan paham atu kan menginsult bah tu sebab ya kebasarannn. hahaha

  5. Plus kalau kan honours ani paksa be apply wah! It’s not by chance, you get awarded it. Without top grades, uni’s aren’t even going to consider you for a place in an honours course. Also, some students go straight to masters pasal bukanya selalu ada honours course thats relevant to what you’ve studied or wanting to study.

Referring to Amal’s post, ECTS grades ani macam average grades kah? Pasal kan to get into an honours course you have to andang andang be sitting on AT LEAST a distinction average (equivalent to tuuu first class honours atu) in Australia. If not, forget it lah…kena buang saja application honours atu.

Coach atu stress wah Sas. Ya stress pasal ya nada time kan minum kopi and has to actually WORK. Pernah ku jumpa coach ani, arah aku pun ya kurang ajar!

  6. Who are you playing squash with?!
I’ve just read ur previous post, jgntah layannn. oh btw, saw tech? i heard he’s busy training wushu nowadays. haha

  7. I think the Malaysian coach has insecurities with org Brunei (which, I find typical of most Malaysians working in Brunei, although not all of them lah ah). From the way he responded to you, he obviously has a narrow perception of education in particular and the world in general, and you did the right thing by not succumbing to his insecurities. When I chose to further my studies Down Under, I also received a few remarks saying “Why not England?” or “Why not the States?” or “Why not go to the ‘good’ universities (referring to England lah)?”. At first I was taken aback by all these remarks but I chose to go ahead and see for myself. Boring ku sudah kan England atu. The flight to England alone wastes a day of my life on the plane. Mun balik2 berapa hari sudah wasted on the plane tu? Plus the weather sucks. Anyway, having been educated in England and Australia, I must say, I learnt more from my Australian lecturers than I did in England. In Australia (well, my experience pulang ni ah, it may not apply to everyone), I am not spoon fed. Rather, I am coached (sorry, no pun intended) to be independent in my studies and forced to be analytical in my assignments. Mun di England dulu sampat kali ku clubbing during weekend, di Australia ani, duii maa…with the load of work I have? Tau pun ku inda dimana kan clubbing.

Okay, the point is, walaupun banyak org memandang rendah (atu standard!! antah kau! LoL) arah Australian system of education, it is mainly because of their mindset. Sampit minded.

    Sorry eh, melarat tah pulang.

    Sekian.

  8. Hahaha, maybe its the harrods bag thing and slippar jaguar still in the mentality of that employers. (Fak u all, Aussie coffee and Tim Tams kicks ass every time)

A handful (more than 5) of students rejected Shell’s scholarship to study in Sydney in favour of fighting another assessment for UK. In addition to them rejecting a perfectly great career, It’s shocking why we still offer scholarship to these dumbass kids in the first place anyway. Hahaha

and whoaa guys, easy on labelling the Malaysians.

  9. Heheh.. ramai urang emosi sini T!! Cuba deh unjuki gula2 sama suruh bekipas sekajap!!

Pasal di UK atu, awu aku agree sampat lagi CLUBBING malam Jumat!! Di Ostroria, jantah kan clubbing, keluar BEKAMIH dari lecture pun ku nda sampat most of the time.. and thanks to that, I HAVE GOOD BLADDER CONTROL NOW!! hahah!!

Majulah sukan untuk negara!! teruskan perjuangan!!

  10. Biarin Ti, at the end of the day its a qualification jua kan. We all went thru the gutt wrenching, eye-popping, hair-pulling, mental & physical exhaustion, home-sickness, “I cant go on” sort of experience.

Are ppl saying that our counterparts that are educated di UBD are not good enough? They follow the same UK system and yet still hve to endure 4 years like those in Aust to get an Honours and on top of that have such a high passing mark compared to most Universities that requires a 40-50%.

I reckon we should just be proud that we were given the chance to go to University and gain a degree regardless of where you are & what you got. In the kind words or Mr-T we should “pity the fool” who has such a very narrow mindset narrower than any rural kampong roads in Brunei! hehe..

p/s I loves you and I miss Grecco. there arent any good cake-shops in this part of the Hemisphere *sigh*

  11. While I agree that the Squash coach was being really rude and offensive, I don’t think Honours degree qualifications from the UK (or anywhere else for that matter) should be summarily dismissed either. Even though UK students don’t have to do an extra year to get an Honours qualification, not everyone gets it either. I know of people who have obtained 2:2 degrees without honours. And even though it might sound easy to get a First Class (70 and above) it’s actually REALLY difficult to do that well. Average marks people get are in the 50’s range (2:2).

I think the point here is not whether the education system in Australia/UK/US/Malaysia/Brunei is better bla bla bla. The point is that they are all GOOD, and that people need to change their mentality. A degree is a degree is a degree. I personally know people who did not do so well in their university degrees and yet they do so much better in the work place than a person with a better qualification.

Also, I think the overall point here is that that squash coach is an ARSEHOLE. Sudahtah merendah-rendahkan uni, mengucapkan negara lagi tu. Ladai bah mulutnya ah hahahaha.

  12. True a degree is a degree but Australian students are much to easilly dismissed and considered second class to Bruneian students educated in the UK…despite working our arses off just equally as much. Ani tah yang sakit ni. Different systems of education does not necessarily mean one has lower standards or better than the other. Semua pun good, semua pun degree tapi seriously people need to understand the difference and not be so bloody condescending to the majority of us that are educated in Oz. Thank you vely much.

and awu eh chill yo yo yo, pasal squash coach melarat all these emotionnss hahaaa.
Ti, i’m like champion at whacking people with the racquet and squash ball…I should play against coach ani. You know from personal experience jua kan hahahaa

  13. syaz, hope your bruises at the back of your body sama the one arah thigh are OKAY. hee. sorry again.

seeya trow. 9.30 ni this time. banar. hehehe xx

p/s: jgn pkai sluar buntak karang marah pulis.

  14. i got called for an interview once where they spent half an hour (ok maybe 15 mins, but it felt long) trying to figure out why i don’t have honours in my degree. balik2 i explained that most students studying at an australian uni would rather opt for a master’s degree rather than honours since it takes the same amount of time to complete anyway. they didn’t get it & i didn’t get the job cos i don’t have “honours”. mind you, this was at MoFAT (back when it was known as MFA). and it happened TWICE. but i’m ok with it now. i think.
